Learning Escaping Danger was an e-book, Dave immediately added it to his Kindle for his reading pleasure.

Books I've read - part 2

Rather than trying to beat the heat, I’ve stayed inside as much as possible - cool and comfortable.  Here are a few of the books that helped divert my attention from the triple digit hot spell we’ve sweltered through this summer!  Dorothy

Escape - Carolyn Jessop
Just weeks before my book was ready to go into printing - this book was published!  What a scramble
I had thinking up a new title for my book which I also originally titled Escape.   I certainly didn’t want two books with the same title coming out at the same time!  Changing my book cover title, interior pages, all the legals entailed and marketing - a host of time-consuming and expensive alterations had to be made.  “He who snoozes, loses!” - it’s true;  and that’s the reason the title of my book became known as Escaping Danger.

I decided to read Carolyn’s story this summer. It was truly an interesting account of a young girl’s life at 14 years of age as the chosen wife of an older man with many other wives and children.  Outward appearances of matrimonial content and reported family harmony in the FLDS were clearly disputed by this brave author in her flight for basic freedoms.  Reports of the shocking mental and physical abuses committed by despicable, tyrannical leaders within this radical ousted FLDS religious group are appalling! Upcoming ... The trial in Utah of its leader Warren Jeffs.

The Road to Wealth - Suze Orman
Every woman’s authority on how to improve their life now and for a comfortable tomorrow by learning how to manage their money.  Straight from the cuff advice, easily understandable.  I love Suze!  How I wish I had known about her simple concepts and been told these explanations decades ago - I’d be so much better off!

The Witness - Sandra Brown
The heroine of this story is a public defender in a Southern state.  She accidentally finds her husband and father-in-law are leaders of an insidiously evil racist group that includes the mayor, business owners and even the police chief!  Unable to trust anyone, she places her life and that of her baby in the hands of an FBI agent and witness protection program in her attempt  to evade the town’s desperate search for her in their attempt to hide heinous secrets.  Will she be able to testify in a federal court against local politicians and police?  A real nail biter.

Judge and Jury - James Patterson & Andrew Gross
Having been engrossed for a month in the Casey Anthony trial, I felt the need to extend that experience with a legal thriller by my favorite mystery writer, James Patterson.  The heroine is a juror in the trial of a notorious Mafia Don.

His ruthlessness and power threatens every juror, witness and even the judge.  With the FBI’s evidence, conviction seems to be a sure thing.  Or is it?  I’m not spoiling the end to this ‘must read’ novel that will keep you turning pages!

Sleight of Mouth - A Collection of Hilarious One Liners  - Harry Allen
With  the many pressures and problems we all face it’s good to take a moment out for a good belly laugh.

The author is a well-known comedian/magician who has performed with almost every show business personality.  He owns Daytona Magic, Inc. at 136 S Beach in Daytona Beach.  Stop into Harry’s shop and revive some good memories of good times he had with the masters of comedy.  You’ll leave with a smile … and more.

Pre-sales begin for new Christmas storybook. Author Dorothy Dubel writes & illustrates children's book.

Oakmonte Village, Lake Mary, FL 5/12/11.   Oakmonte resident Lillian Brunetti is shown as she purchased the first pre-publication copy of Magical Shoes of Santa's Elves, written and illustrated by author Dorothy Dubel.

Lillian's  granddaughter Rachel will be the lucky recipient of the keepsake children's Christmas story book which will be available to booksellers, Amazon and retail outlets world wide in September 2011. The special edition copy will be hand delivered by the author to Ms. Brunetti in June.

The story, written for children from 4 to 11 years, is about Ms. Sally, the neighborhood nanny who arrives at the home of three small children to find it a mess with scattered toys.

She convincingly tells them a BIG secret: a simple finger snap by an Elf can magically turn his curled-toe shoes into skis!  Back and forth they ski in the sky - to North Pole and back - before Christmas carrying Naughty and Nice Lists to Santa!

Once again children are reminded of the value of good behavior. "It's a story children will remember" added Ms. Dubel, a Heathrow resident.

Ms. Brunetti also purchased a copy of Ms. Dubel's adventure five-star award winning novel, Escaping Danger, for her daughter in law.

Books I love to read

Silas Marner … George Eliot (pen name of Mary Ann Evans 1819-1880)  For the past couple of nights I lay awake listening to Andrew Sachs’ distinguished voice on CD’s as he reads this classic 18th century tale.  With clever voice interpretations for Silas, Godfrey, Mrs. Winthrop and Eppy, all are once again alive in my bedroom! Silas, a strange old man, gloomily faces a lonely life suffering the loss of his horded gold. Mrs. Winthrop a delightfully straight-spoken neighbor is full of wisdom and advice for Silas as he reluctantly raises an orphaned baby girl left in his cottage. Eppy grows to be a beautiful young lady inheriting a vast fortune from her real father, with a loving disposition for her simple upbringing and kind Silas.  I loved listening to this story – the last time I read Silas Marner was in my high school literature class.  - Dorothy
Alice In Wonderland …  When I was a kid we lived in a poor neighborhood. My aunt Jean bought me Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass for my 9th birthday. Having a new book of your own was a tremendously-extravagant treasure!  The story was  challenging to understand, but I began to love every chapter as Alice’s adventures grew more and more exciting.  I couldn’t believe the dysfunctional characters and situations Alice encountered!  My thirst for reading increased; as my mother obtained a library card in my name.  Like Alice, I stepped through a doorway which opened my imagination and encouraged my writing skills.  Literature beckoned me at an early age. - Dorothy
Hello Nancy Drew…
In the sixth grade at Theodore Roosevelt Grammar School in Cheektowaga, NY, my fate was sealed when I met Nancy Drew.  I babysat on Saturdays for a family who lived on the next street.  $1 earnings enabled me to ride the bus downtown, buy a Nancy Drew Mystery Story book for .59 cents, have a dime for bus fare each way and still have change for penny bubble gum at Gister’s, the neighborhood store!  Twice a month I was allowed to make this excursion alone with severe motherly warnings to “return within a couple of hours or else!”  I always rushed home, anxious to start reading the new book.  Before graduating from TR, I had the entire collection of Carolyn Keene’s books.  Those cliff-hanging chapter endings inspired me to do the same when I wrote Escaping Danger.

Celebrating Pulaski Day in Longwood Florida

Dorothy Dubel, a Florida author of Polish descent, has been asked to be one of the speakers at the Polish National Alliance Lodge 3216, annual Pulaski Day Remembrance at the Polonia Restaurant, 750 S. Hwy 17-92 in Longwood, FL on Sunday, March 20, 2011.  A Polish-style lunch will be served.

PNA President, Al H. Schwarz will introduce the speakers including PNA Secretary Charles Komosa who will address the issue of redistricting and its affect on the 3216 Lodge.  The luncheon will serve as a memorial remembrance to an historic military figure in the American Revolution, General Casimir Pulaski (1745-1779).

Ms.  Dubel, author of Escaping Danger will honor the memory of those Polish citizenry who struggled as immigrants to attain United States citizenship.  Citing her own ancestors who fled their Krakow village prior to WWI from a life of Nazi despotism in Eastern Europe, she will relate how they overcame the obstacles of language barriers and relocation in a new country.
